The Only Town in Pennsylvania
Bloomsburg, an historic college Town on the Susquehanna River, is the home of Bloomsburg University, which has over 8,000 students and 1,000 faculty. The university is the largest employer in Columbia County. Other major employers include: Geisinger Bloomsburg Hospital, Autoneum North America, and Kawneer. In a ten-block stretch along Bloomsburg’s historic Main Street, the downtown hosts a variety of boutique retail stores, art galleries and collectives including The Exchange, professional offices, banquet facility, fine restaurants and workaday eateries, and a professional repertory theater. Public buildings include the Bloomsburg Public Library, Town Hall, Columbia County Courthouse, and U.S. Post Office. The entire Downtown commercial district is contained within a National Register Historic District established in 1982 through the efforts of local citizens.
